HOW ARE YOUR TIES DIFFERENT?

We got tired of trying to find something better than aloha wear scraps sewn into makeshift neckties.  The feel of a cotton necktie with poor quality interlining makes for a novelty item, but not a useful, high-end necktie that will last more than a few knots.  Of the comments we get back from our happy customers, we consistently receive praise for the high quality feel and workmanship of Pineapple Palaka products.  It costs us more to use the highest quality silks, polyester microfiber and wool components, but we insist on this so that you end up with a product that we guarantee will impress you with its luxury look, feel, and durability.

WHAT IS PALAKA?

Palaka is a 4x4 woven checked pattern, usually created from cotton. Use of palaka in Hawaii dates back to the 19th century during the time of King Kamehameha. It was named by Hawaiians and first-generation Japanese immigrants, and soon became a ubiquitous fabric in local closets. In the early 20th century, palaka's durability and simplicity made it a staple clothing material for the majority of Hawaii's residents. Palaka is Hawaiian because Hawaii chose palaka. It is unique because with all the initial differences in class, culture, and race, palaka dressed everyone in unity and told the world "I am Hawaiian."

WHERE DO YOUR DESIGNS COME FROM?

Pineapple Palaka works with local artists to identify, conceptualize, and create unique designs that reflect the beauty, culture, and life that surrounds us in the islands of Hawaii. We draw inspiration from surfing, diving, hiking, paddling, and from the smells, sounds, and feelings that surround us. We then work very closely with our production partners to transform the digital art into a fabric shell that becomes a wearable piece of art.

HOW CAN I BEST CARE FOR MY TIE?

Caring for your tie correctly will insure that your tie will last for years without losing its quality. If any wrinkles develop from shipping or regular use, the best option is to lay the tie on a flat surface overnight. For best results, never store the tie in a knot, never spray with perfume or fragrance, never bleach the tie, never leave exposed to direct sunlight for long periods of time, only iron on a warm setting, iron over fabric barrier and do not linger too long, iron the backside of the tie only, do not use steam or water spray while ironing, never wring dry. For any other care questions, please contact us!
