Pineapple Palaka x Kim Taylor Reece.  Hula is the traditional dance form of the Hawaiian islands. Hula plays a central role in Hawaiʻi’s culture, storytelling, and spiritual life.  Once taught only within select hālau, hula has grown into a living art practiced across the world.  There are two major styles of hula - kahiko, the ancient form accompanied by oli and traditional percussion, and ʻauana, the modern style often danced to melodic instruments.  Each requires discipline, deep cultural knowledge, and respect for the stories being shared.  Through movement, chant, and graceful expression, hula preserves history and honors the kupuna who passed these traditions down.  This particular design is inspired by a collaboration with the timeless photographs of artist Kim Taylor Reece.
